In order to achieve the stated purposes, the Regulations impose a number of prohibitions and requirements. The Regulations impose financial, trade and immigration sanctions for the purposes of promoting peace, stability and security in Myanmar promoting respect for democracy, the rule of law and good governance in Myanmar, including in particular promoting the successful completion of Myanmar’s transition to a democratic country discouraging actions, policies or activities which repress the civilian population in Myanmar and promoting compliance with international human rights law and respect for human rights in Myanmar.

Annual bamboo production in Myanmar is estimated at about 2 billion pieces, including industrial and domestic informal production. Productive areas have been estimated to extend over 17,838 squared kilometres. Myanmar’s rich bamboo resources are distributed throughout the country.Additionally, at least 8 rattan species have identified in Myanmar. 102 bamboo species belonging to 21 genera are present in Myanmar, of which 18 have been identified as particularly relevant for trade.Myanmar’s designated focal point with INBAR is the Forest Research Institute (FRI), under the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Conservation.The Republic of the Union of Myanmar is a founding member of INBAR, joining on 6 November 1997.
